  2. Boar breeders

    56. Boar breeders - Boar breeders

Breeding boars is very similar to breeding litters. Only this time there's just one breeding boar per pen.
It costs 500 Kekos to bring back a breeding boar to life and only 20 Kekos to bury it.

You're given 4 different assignments to choose from. It's up to you to pick the right one according to the demand:

To complete your assignment and possibly change jobs afterwards:
    - you need to produce and sell a minimum of 1,600 doses of Basque Black and White semen on the market;
    - or produce and sell a minimum of 1,920 doses of Meishan semen on the market;
    - or produce and sell a minimum of 2,080 doses of Duroc semen on the market;
    - or produce and sell a minimum of 2,240 doses of Large White semen on the market.

    Buying a breeding boar:
You can buy a breeding boar provided you have at least 1,000 Kekos in your account and that you own no more than 20 breeding boars already.
The price is the same for all breeds. At purchase, you're asked to give the animal a name.
You can have a herd of 20 breeding boars maximum.

    Selling a breeding boar:
You can sell a breeding boar provided it weighs at least 90kg and that it's not sick.
Its sale price varies according to the going pig rate.
    A breeding boar mustn't weigh over 300kg.

    Breeding boar semen:
You can collect semen every 3 days as soon as the boar weighs 20kg. Below this minimum weight, the boar is just too thin and can't produce any semen.
Semen has a total shelf life of 24 hours. Once collected, it is stored in 4 different test tubes (each fitted with a cap) that you'll have bought on the market beforehand. Test tubes cost 2 Kekos each.

From the moment you buy a breeding boar, you must give it a W/S mix to eat and some water otherwise the quality of its semen will decrease.
Note that a breeding boar can eat, get dirty and produce slurry twice a day.

If you fail to use your breeding boar's semen within 24 hours, it becomes non-viable and you won't be able to do anything with it.
After 24 hours, even on the market, semen is no longer viable and is disposed of - even if you remove it from the market before the fateful deadline.

    Semen quality:
The sale price of semen depends on its quality.
Semen quality is considered perfect when it reaches 100%. This rate mainly varies according to which cereals the breeding boar is fed on but its well-being (cleanliness, straw, building size and cleanliness) is also crucial.
Semen quality remains at 100% as long as you feed a W/S mix to the breeding boar, fill its water trough every time you feed it, keep its litter fresh (which means you need to change the straw every 2 days), clean it as soon as it gets dirty and make sure the building stays clean.

    Daily loss:
    - A 10% loss of quality is noticed when:
The breeding boar is given something else than a W/S mix; doesn't eat; or eats but without water.

    - An 8% loss of quality is noticed when:
The breeding boar has too little or too much space. The ideal building surface should be between 2 sq.m. and 2.5 sq.m. Beware that if the size of your building is over 2.5 sq.m. when you purchase the boar, you'll also loose quality

    - A 6% loss of quality is noticed when:
The level of dirtiness in your building is over 15%.

    - A 4% loss of quality is noticed when:
The breeding boar is not bedded up with straw.

    - A 3% loss of quality is noticed when:
The breeding boar is sick and doesn't get treated.

    - A 2% loss of quality is noticed when:
The breeding boar is dirty and doesn't get cleaned.

You can't make up for a loss of quality. The loss is calculated every night. If the semen quality falls under 10%, it is automatically disposed of. You'll be notified in the "Events" page.
Inseminating a sow with bad or average quality semen means that it'll have a greater number of stillborn piglets.

    Cleaning the building:
Depending on how many breeding boars you own, your building gets more or less filthy over time. And you must clean it:

    DAYS 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th
    NUMBER OF BOARS
    01 6% 8% 10% 12% 14% 16% 18% 20%
    02 7% 9% 11% 13% 15% 17% 19% 21%
    03 8% 10% 12% 14% 16% 18% 20%
    04 9% 11% 13% 15% 17% 19% 21%
    05 10% 12% 14% 16% 18% 20%
    06 11% 13% 15% 17% 19% 21%
    07 12% 14% 16% 18% 20%
    08 13% 15% 17% 19% 21%
    09 14% 16% 18% 20%
    10 15% 17% 19% 21%

    Selling semen:
Once collected, semen is placed in a storage space you can access by clicking on "Fridge" at the bottom of the page.
You can sell the semen you collected from there. Any type of semen can be used to inseminate a sow at Level 3 and 4 but of course demand is higher for good-quality semen, which means you can ask quite a lot of money for it.

Sale price varies according to both quality and rate. Example: say the quality of the semen you're selling is at 65%, if the going pig rate is at 100 Kekos, you can ask 65 Kekos for a dose of semen i.e. one test tube.

Breeding boars produce slurry like any other pigs. They make one litter a day provided they are fed. However, note that it's technically impossible to install duckboards in the breeding boar building.
